Hi, I’m Jess, and I’m the founder of Deckhands Down Under. I started sailing at 21 after being discharged from the Military. I was completely new to the world of boats, but driven by a passion for purpose and a desire to see the world. Over the years, I crossed the Atlantic, worked and lived on sailboats across the globe, and now I call the beautiful Whitsundays home. Along the way, I learned just how tough it can be to find reliable crew and the right opportunities, especially when you're starting from scratch.

That’s why I decided to create Deckhands Down Under—a platform to help people like me, whether they’re seasoned sailors or looking for their first opportunity on deck. I wanted to make it easier for crew to find boats and for boat owners to find the right people to get the job done.

As someone who’s worked on both sides—whether crewing or hiring—there’s a real need for a space that connects passionate, dedicated individuals to the opportunities that are out there. I built this platform to give everyone, no matter their level of experience, a chance to get involved in the industry and experience life on the water.
